Hello and Welcome to The Albion Cattle Society!

This site has been created to provide information about the breed and to allow Albion cattle to be registered.

Albions have recently been officially recognised as a true native breed by being added to the Rare Breeds Survival Trust watch list.

This is fantastic news, with lots more work to be done to increase the breed population which currently stands at  approximately 170 Albion females. (BCMS:August 2018)

Ruth Dalton has decided to move on from her dedicated work at RBST and that was a sad day for the Albion Cattle Society. Ruth was working in the north-west area of the country a few years ago and became involved with the Scout Beck herd of Albions after the sad passing of the owner, Michael Bottomley. Since then she has acted as 'chief advisor' to our small society, encouraging us along the lengthy, slow route to becoming offi...

Christmas time is upon us and I thought that this hawthorn looked 'christmassy' as the poor cows sheltered from yet more rain.

November BBC Countryfile episodes featured Adam's Albions again, particularly the herd TB test; this has led to more enquiries for Albion cattle. With other farm herd TB tests at this time of year, making cattle movements easier, some lucky new members now own their first Albions. Below is a shot of the...

The weather was beautiful after such a stormy night so we could all take our time and really enjoy the sights at Cotswold Rare Breeds Farm. particularly the Albions. It was lovely to see the herd with so many blue cattle together. With 3 of last year's heifers next door and a young, very smart black bull in another paddock, we managed to see all the Albions and were shown round the rest of the farm as well with manager, Mike...

More beauty from the Lake District where the National Trust have found exciting plant diversity exists in areas that have been grazed for years by Albion cattle rather than the usual sheep.

Check out the new AI straw stock updates for Albion bulls (See 'AI bulls') and you will see how important it is to collect from new bulls. There are up to 4 possible bulls available and this is what ACS funds are being saved for. Donations gratefully received!

RBST are funding some embryo work as well, with currently one mature cow ,from a rare line, having gone to stud so she can be checked regularly. Already, one embryo has b...

What progress from last year...we have made the cover of the RBST watch list! On 22nd May a very interesting cattle seminar was held by the RBST at Cotswold farm Park. There were talks about the importance of embryo work and even the techniques and application. A lovely lunch, followed by a tour and talk given by Adam & Libby Henson, reminding everyone that rare breeds are worth 'fighting for'. Much to think about on the dri...

Easter brings new life and hope.

March 7, 2019

Last Sunday, 10th March, 18-30, there was a section filmed near Sandbach, Cheshire from the society's chairman's farm on BBC Countryfile.  Adam was buying a bull from there but they also filmed scenes in the parlour. The bull is Betchton Harold who was much admired at the Open Day held back in August; we hope he will have semen collected one day as well- that would make another interesting episode!  Click...
